Giant outdoor sculpture by Fisnik Ismaili made of 3 metre-high letters forming the word "Newborn" is one of the symbols of Kosovo's independence. Once yellow when erected in 2008 it was then methodically covered with graffiti.
This is one of the last photos ever taken of the yellow Newborn. It looked completely different the next morning. While I was taking this image, on the other side young Kosovans were busy painting the giant letters with the national flags of the countries that had recognized Kosovo's independence. Hence the black bags hanging from the letters B R and N.
The neon in the background is part of the sign of the American School of Kosova.
